Walks & Activities

Enjoy walking the lanes around the farm. Dress to blend in, go quietly, and you will be amazed at the wildlife you will see and hear!

In winter the fields and paths can be very muddy. Remember to wear appropriate waterproof footwear and dress up warm. There is a hose pipe and brush at the green shed near to Home Field which can be used to hose down muddy boots, buggies and dogs!

Dogs are always welcome at the farm but please do keep them on their lead when walking around the farm. Sadly there is no such thing as a poo fairy so we ask dog owners to ALWAYS carry a bag when walking your dog and, should your dog make a mess, please bag it up and put it in a public waste bin or take it home for disposal.

Woodland Play Area

Your Farm Day Pass includes access to our woodland play area as well as the farm trail. Equipped with a wooden fort, wooden wigwams and playhouses and lots of ride on tractors which are a great hit with any aspiring young farmer! Fluffy white rabbits, giant black rabbits, guinea pigs, goats or sheep in their pens are also located in the woodland play.

It is a wild wood so you need to take precautions to ensure your own safety. Visitors participate at their own risk. Always wash your hands after playing and before eating and drinking.

Children can also look for the fairy doors (Fairy Trail book, pencils and Trail can be purchased online or in the farm shop for a small additional charge).

Sorry, but picnicking is not allowed anywhere on the farm. Social distancing rules apply, children must be supervised by an adult at all times as the facilities are not manned by our staff.

Goat Walking

From February 12th join our farmers walking Gilbert, Gregory, Gerald and Gordon, our Anglo Nubian Goats. We will start off by getting to know the goats and learning about how to walk them. Once everyone is acquainted we will head out on a gentle walk through our farm. The goats will have the opportunity to browse on the hedgerows and grasses which is great enrichment for them.

You will find the goats full of mischief, extremely intelligent and just love human company. You will lead your own personal goat on a leisurely stroll throughout, with frequent stops for them to nibble their favourite leaves and plants and for you to take photographs of the occasion. On the way, your farmer will tell you about the goats that you have walking with you and you can ask questions.

Once the walk is over you will be able to feed them some treats before releasing them back into their paddock.

The event will run for approximately 45 minutes - 1 hour per session and can be booked online. This event is not suitable for very young children under the age of 3 or children who may not want to walk for a long period of time.

£14.95 per person walking the goat (not the accompanying adult). Remember all visitors need to purchase the Farm Entry tickets too (£5.50 per person, under 2's foc) in order to book to participate in this activity. Book online.

Feeding and walking animals can get mucky, so wear wellies or sensible shoes, and old clothing that's appropriate for the outdoor conditions. Please avoid toggles as the goats like chewing anything that dangles!

Please read the below information thoroughly before your visit as there are important points you will need to know as part of your booking. Please also read our FAQ's & Terms & Conditions before booking and visiting the farm.

DAY VISITS

FEEDING THE ANIMALS - you can feed the animals with the food available in the Farm Shop but only feed animals at the designated feeding stations and do not allow animals to feed from your hands.

Always wash your hands after going near the animals and before eating and drinking. Animal feed can be purchased online here. Please collect this when you check-in.

CAN I FEED THE ANIMALS LEFT OVER FOOD? - no, please do not feed the animals in the fields any food other than the designated food.

BE SAFE - beware of electric fences, barbed wire, cattle grids and other hazards — this is a real working farm. Please clean up after your dog, and please don’t throw poo bags in our hedges.

NO PICNIC - for bio-security reasons, picnics are not allowed at the farm.

CHILDREN & TEENAGERS - must be supervised at ALL TIMES. Farms are dangerous places - barbed wire, ponds, ditches, electric fences, camp fires & more. Please take extreme care and accompany your children at all times.

PROPERTY - Church Farm accepts no responsibility for any property or person damaged or injured while on the farm. Visitors enter the farm and leave their belongings at their own risk.

CAR PARK & DRIVING - When driving through the farm it is important that you keep to the speed limit (5mph). Our car park can get very busy, please supervise children at all times.

WORKING FARM - please be aware this a working farm and farm vehicles (quad bikes, tractors and other farm vehicles) operate continually on the farm.

STAY ON THE FOOTPATH -  please keep to the footpaths and follow the signs round the farm or one of the walks shown on the farm map. Never walk through fields containing animals or crops or cause damage to crops, this is someone’s livelihood.

CATTLE - do not enter the cattle field (especially if you have a dog) as they have calves, so will be extremely protective and will see you or the dog as a threat to their young.

HAZARDS - please beware of electric and barbwire fences. As well as other trip hazards such as uneven surfaces and stumps. Avoid any stinging nettles and brambles and beware of cattle grids and any other hazardous items that may be around the farm.

PREGNANT - If you are pregnant then we would please ask that you avoid touching the animals and keep your distance especially from ewes and lambs. (Please see NHS guidelines)

NO CLIMBING - never climb fences, bales, gates or animal enclosures.

FARM STAYS, CABINS, GLAMPING & CAMPING

NO SMOKING - in or around the cabins or tents. Never use candles, smoke or cook in or near a tent or cabin.

CAMPFIRES -

  • Open camp fires are allowed when camping; however, we do ask that if you choose to have a fire, you must have a means by which you can put it out in an emergency, such as water or a fire extinguisher. The fire must be in an open space at least 10 metres from any bushes, trees or hedgerow. There is a charge for having a campfire which must be paid on booking at which point you will receive a safety briefing and red water bucket.
  • Fire Wood is sold in our store! Please do not forage for wood or bring in your own wood. We manage all the trees here sustainably for fuel so you would be disrupting this plan.
  • Do not burn the hay bales or any straw on the field as this is hazardous to people sitting around the fire. The straw bales have other uses on the farm so must remain intact.
  • Parents and guardians are responsible for their own children at all times. Please take extreme care around a bonfire or campfire.
  • Never leave the campfire unattended.

BBQ'S -

  • BBQs in enclosed spaces are deadly. Never use candles, smoke or cook in or near a tent. Use torches instead. Cook and smoke a safe distance from the tent. Be Carbon Monoxide aware!
  • Parents and guardians are responsible for their own children at all times. Please take extreme care around a BBQ and never leave your BBQ unattended.

CABIN WOODBURNERS - If staying in a cabin and using the Wood Burner ensure you read the instructions in the cabin and the booklet in your cabin, prior to use.

  • ALWAYS use the metal safety guard.
  • Once lit NEVER leave unattended.
  • DON’T leave flammable substances near or on the wood burner or metal safety guard.
  • Burn ONLY seasoned wood (available at the store). This is wood that has been dried out over at least one season. Do not bring your own wood. Green wood burns badly and creates creosote which is harmful to yourself and the environment.
  • Make sure the fire gets enough air – use the air inlet – to achieve complete combustion and less smoke!
  • Leave a window open when fire is lit.

FIRE SAFETY -

  • Ensure tents are kept at least 6m apart and 6m away from the cabins.
  • Keep a torch handy for emergencies, do not use a candle. Keep matches and lighters out of the reach of children.
  • Keep flammable liquids and gas cylinders away from tents/ cabins.
  • Do not cook inside your tent / cabin.
  • If your clothing catches fire, STOP, DROP AND ROLL.
  • Do not smoke inside tents, cabins, bell tents, compost loos or showers or near straw or hay bales. Also put  cigarettes out thoroughly.
  • Fire extinguishers and fire blankets are provided for all the cabins and bell tents.

In the event of a major fire: Get everyone out straight away, as fires in tents spread very quickly. Call the fire and rescue service (give postcode SG2 7AH). Call the farm number. Keep away from the fire and move to a safe area. The above is only a guide to fire safety and you should take your own precautions and use common sense. Church Farm cannot be held responsible for any advice given.
