Voluntary Internships - Work Experience with accommodation on the Farm.
Our current team of interning volunteers range from pre-university gap year, to graduates and post grads, university of life - many with work and life experience of many years too and from different countries.
We tailor each internship to each individuals talents and interests. Erasmus students are welcome too.
A period of 4 months to a year living and working on the farm suits people who are passionate about food, farming & the countryside - those willing to ask questions and eager to learn and wanting practical hands-on experience.
We can provide volunteers with accommodation (we pay all utility bills), food and water from the farm. We generally invite people to come and stay and see if they like it for a weekend if you can but at the moment we are conducting meetings on the phone!
Importantly, if you haven’t done so already, please also explore the Church Farm website and its Facebook page. This will help you greatly to better appreciate the diversity and scope of Church Farm.
Accommodation at Church Farm is either single caravan, shared caravan or cabin depending on availability. In some cases toilet and shower facilities are separate. Church Farm has internet in its communal Diner. Everyone has their own room.
Volunteering interns can combine two or more activities, which not only enriches their experience, but also helps understand Church Farm as a whole business enterprise, since it is quite diverse.
It can be physically hard work, but that is a part of agriculture; working with the seasons and lifecycle and needs of plants and animals. Seasons throughout the year go from cold, wet and damp with short daylight hours to dry, warm and bright long sunshine days. However everything you do is entirely voluntary and you can request to change to different activities and take time off and breaks from the farm whenever you wish during your stay.
Church Farm is broad in scope with opportunities not only to work on the land with animals, vegetables and fruit, but also in retail in the store, café, pub, events and marketing (from animal experiences to camping, to childrens’ parties to weddings, as well as corporate events). The major part of Church Farm is providing education and placements for people with learning difficulties - see Rural Care. No doubt one improves skills in speaking and in working with the public since Church Farm is open every day of the year.
What you do depends on your talents and what you desire to learn. Typically you would spend the bulk of your time on one enterprise in the Food, Horticulture or Farm sections and the remaining time would include responsibility for some aspects and helping with the preparation, display, sale and cooking of what you help to grow. Contact with the community can come through the Farm Store & Café, events, marketing, Farmers Markets, Farm Box scheme and Rural Care Enterprises. Please let us know your interests and talents so we can tailor your time accordingly - everyone in different and we have a diversity of tasks and people!
Local Volunteers who do not need accommodation.
We welcome help from anyone in any aspects of our food, farming enterprises. Volunteers come for half a day a week or more to gain experience and excercise. Given the diversity of what we do there is something that everyone can help with. Do get in touch!
